But the 100K mile powertrain factory warranty is on the diesel and only 60K mile powertrain warranty on the gasoline models. You have to ask yourself why you have to pay for the longer warranty for the gasoline engines to get coverage similar to the diesel.

Also, the fine print on the lifetime warranty ends the warranty when the cost to repair exceeds the vehicle value, which could be around 10 years in the event of a catastrophic engine failure on the gasoline models. Diesels hold their value better and last longer, thus making that "out" clause less profitable if a "lifetime" warranty were offered on the diesel.

I beg to differ. I own a Ram ED and this forum is quiet in comparison to the Ram1500diesel forum. There is a documented bottom end issue with the ED engine. That is why they changed the weight of the oil to slow the rate of failures. There is also a ton of emission and cooling issues going on as well. While I haven’t had any engine troubles, I have had the catalyst replaced under the campaign and a leaky EGR cooler.

Yes, diesel engines usually have a higher resale because of their longevity and higher initial cost…however if this becomes a branded drivetrain you can kiss that goodbye. Take a look at WK diesel’s, they sell for the same price as a gas version.

If you want a diesel buy a Superduty, Cummins, or Duramax. Don’t buy a JGC with a diesel that is comparable to a small lawnmower or yard tractor. I know nothing about JGC diesels but I do dabble heavy in the diesel world. I can talk specifics all day if you’d like.

If you plan on towing and require a diesel then a truck is way better. Anything you can tow with a JGC diesel can most likely be towed with a gasser. I tow 20k plus daily and would never think of a JGC to do the job. A small trailer or boat….yes…JGC all day.

To get the mileage out of a diesel you need to play with them. Custom tunes and full deletes are required for best results. Technically, it doesn’t void any warranty as they would have to prove the tunes caused the damage. But my point is, you must be prepared to go down that road when you play lol.

Just a quick Google search of the VM Motori shows some significant problems that can arise when tuned. Rail pressure would be almost at max, along with pulse width, to see significant gains in mpg’s. That being said… your hpfp would run at full and may cause premature failure.

I don’t buy this for a minute…. It is really perfectly suited for the JEEP. It says ECO Diesel, not Sled pulling at the county fair diesel…. It has does everything within it’s capabilities very well at mileage and range that no gasser can match. I’ve towed Jet ski’s with it and I’ve towed the 7K max Cargo trailer with it and it had done both very well…Other than GDE, (And that is optional..) it certainly doesn’t need to be "Tuned".. We are not trying to pull 5th wheels with it. We bought it for economy and range and it has delivered that well. As long as you have Maxcare, I certainly wouldn’t get my shorts in a knot over an occasional engine failure… It happens to gassers too…

And like most…you don’t read….I said tunes and full deletes are required for BEST RESULTS…..not results……BEST……BEST…..BEST….not just results lol. Tunes are not always meant to gain power. But in a tiny little Italian diesel….that’s what you will see most likely…..leading to people like yourself making statements like you did.
