This premium-level 3-bedroom beach cottage is perfectly located! This cottage really does have it all! Situated on the 2nd row of the Melrose cottage area, you will have a glimpse of the ocean at the front, and both marsh and golf course direct views from the back. The Sandbox Cottage has a HUGE backyard with its own hammock for snoozing or reading under the Great Oaks draped with Spanish Moss. The cottage’s yard adjoins the 8th green of the Melrose golf course

A truly nice feature of this cottage is that it has extended-sized screened porches. You’ll be able to start your day sitting in your Adirondack chair sipping coffee while watching the morning sun rise over the ocean, and end your day with cocktails and dinner on the back porch while enjoying the island’s plentiful sea shore birds flying over the lovely marsh area.

The interior of the cottage is lovely as well. This is one of the renovated beach cottages, and you will enjoy an open and spacious living/dining/kitchen area that is great for family get-togethers or quality time with a group of friends. It includes, of course, a flat screen TV, DVD player, and Wi-Fi. Your fully-equipped kitchen with Corian counters is perfect for preparing meals that can be enjoyed inside or out on the screened-in porch.

The Sandbox Vacation Home is beautifully decorated and has many unique touches including colorful Low-Country prints and comfortable appointments throughout. The master bedroom includes a king-sized bed, a bump-out alcove with comfortable chairs for reading or watching TV, and a private bathroom. The remaining two bedrooms each have two full-sized beds and share a full bathroom decorated with artwork featuring Daufuskie scenes. All bedrooms have flatscreen TVs.

Concerned about the logistics of coming to the island, getting groceries, etc etc? No need to worry! You will receiving lots of good information and assistance from the owner who lives on the island and will be available 24/7 for any problems. As with all of DRG’s rental guests, we strive to make the Daufuskie experience a stress-free and enjoyable adventure. Once you’re here, the owner will be available to introduce you to both the resort and our unique and beautiful island that you will want to explore on the complimentary golf cart provided with this cottage.

The owner accepts well-behaved canine members of the family. However, the dog must be over one year old, not aggressive towards people or other pets, be house trained, does not get up on the furniture, and is ok with being left alone when you are away from the cottage (no incessant barking or destructive behavior). We also ask that you will be a responsible pet owner when the dog is outside, that your dog is up-to-date on flea and heart worm treatment, that there will be no signs that your pet was in the property when you depart, and that you will be responsible for any damage and/or extra cleaning caused by your dog.

This was our first trip to Daufuskie Island and we were really looking forward to it. Deborah and Karen were both wonderful to work with during the booking process. There was a mix up on our ferry schedule, and despite it being our fault, they fixed the issue immediately.

The gentleman who met us at the dock to take us to the house was great! He gave us a rundown of where things were on the island and pointed out some of the best places to visit and eat. Deborah was at the house when we arrived and was very understanding that we had driven all night and were exhausted! She gave us basic information about the house and golf carts and then let us get some much needed rest. She came back later in the afternoon to give us more detailed information.

We had some minor issues with the golf carts and Deborah addressed them immediately. She was always just a phone call away and provided some great information about the island. She even took my daughter and her three friends, who are animal lovers, to the cat sanctuary so they could see all of the cats.

Chase has been featured in numerous Southern and Coastal Living publications and recently won a national “American Made” contest sponsored by the Martha Stewart magazine. Lots of interesting things to see here, and visitors enjoy exploring his art work on both the front porch and in an outdoor gallery area. Love honey? Chase has his own bee hives, and you can buy jars of freshly-made honey.

The Silver Dew Pottery opens for the season on Tuesday, April 30th and remains open through October. This studio is run by Lancy and Emily Burn, longtime Daufuskie residents. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Lancy’s grandfather arriving on Daufuskie to serve as the Bloody Point assistant lighthouse keeper. You can hear some fascinating stories about the island’s history from the Burns during your visit to this shop.

The historic Jane Hamilton School, formerly used as the school for children living on the north end of the island, has been restored by the Daufuskie Historical Foundation and is currently home to the Gullah Learning Center and the Daufuskie Island Community Library. It also serves as the polling location for Daufuskie’s elections precinct.
