Locals we talked to about swimming and sauna (locally pronounced gas buddy as sour-na) all recommended we go to the newish open air sea pool but it was snowing and we’re wimps. We came here instead. The pool is lovely and starts off at 0.9m at the shallow end and is over 3m at the other end. We went on Sunday morning and were surprised there were so few people but maybe it was early. There are two floors to the swimming hall. The second floor costs a little more and you get more although I’m not sure what because it was shut when we went. Check the website before you go for opening times which are quite complicated as it’s gender segregated by day due to he nude swimming. The day I went gas monkey monster truck body over half the swimmers opted out of swim wear and it’s very matter of fact with all shapes, sizes and ages swimming naked or not. The only thing that matters is that you’re not a beginner swimmer because the water gets deep very quickly. The sauna on the ground floor is electric. I like to wilt in hot steam until my pores beg for mercy so the dry heat didn’t do much electricity outage for me. So don’t come here if same sex nudity bothers you but if you’d appreciate swimming in a beautiful and historic but impeccably maintained pool then I recommend a visit to Yrjönkatu.
