For the past year i’ve had abdominal bloating and gas after eating certain foods. Lately it has gotten worse. I get abdominal bloating, nausea, cramping, and chest pains right underneath my breast bone in my mid upper abdomen and lower chest area after everything I eat. It gets especially bad after eating salad, fried foods, deli sandwiches, etc. Just recently I started feeling that my food would get hung up for a split second in my chest before going down and sometimes it wants to come back up. The doctor put me on nexium and it didn’t work. He now wants to send me to get a gallbladder ultrasound. I don’t thing this is my problem because I don’t meet any of the criteria but I have most of the symptoms. I am 26, 118 pounds, I eat healthy and workout both cardio and weight lifting three times a week… I used to be anorexic about 10 years ago and during recovery I began throwing up my food sometimes and still but not real often. I’m concerned that maybe this could be causing some of my symptoms. I just want some answers. Should I go through with the u/s, do a hida scan, or would I found out more with an endoscopy?

first off, congrats on overcoming your eating disorder! That’s something to be proud of! As far as your current problem goes, I think you should let your Dr. Do the ultrasound. It is painless and will let you know if you have gall stones. That’s the first step…As for me, my ultrasound came out normal but my problems (very similar to yours) persisted. That’s when my Dr. Ordered a hida-scan. It’s not a great experience, but is tolerable…Mainly boring laying there very still for so long while you’re being scanned. With the last injection, there is some cramping but it doesn’t last too aweful long. The hida scan is how I found out that my gall bladder is in fact dieased, yet I don’t have gall stones. My Dr. Said that only 5% of peole with gall bladder disease don’t have gall stones. The ultrasound itself is checking for stones so that’s why mine came back to be normal. Anyway, I hope this offers you some help. Whether you meet the "requirements" for gall bladder disease or not, (which I don’t either) you may still have it. It’s better to be checked either way. Best of luck to you! My surgery is going to be done as soon as my insurance gives the okay.

Hi,im 27,female, and ive have been having exactly the same problems for 8 months now, I get a lot of pain and discomfort in my sternum/breastbone, and also just below it. When I eat, mostly when I have dinner in the evenings my food doesnt always feel like it is going down properly, it sits halfway down for a while and it feels like I need to burp and it will all come back up. Quite often I burp up watery stuff, sometimes sick and sometimes the food ive just eaten, not huge amounts but enough, and its not very nice! I also sometimes get a really heavy feeling in the bottom of my chest? Im always burping, I never used to and its really embarresing sometimes! Ive been to my gp and ive been on nexium for 6 months although it hasnt really helped. Ive had a barium swallow and that didnt show anything, my gp sent me to a consultant and he then sent me for an endoscopy examination, this also didnt show anything? Im waiting for a follow up appointment to see where I go from here? I know this information doesnt help you much but dont get your hopes up that an endoscopy will show the cause of the problem because it may not,as I found out, I hope you find an answer soon though because these symptoms are horrible and I sympathise with you having them as I to have been very uncomfortable for a long time now, with no answer for it? Good luck!

My daughter has been very sick for over 2 months now. It began with vommitting bile, diahrhea, could not eat or drink, no energy, etc… She was hospitalized for 5 days and they did a CT scan, Hida scan, bloodwork and stool samples. Everything came back negative. She is no longer vommitting but she is nauseated 24/7 and has extreme pain under her breast bone that goes into her chest and radiates to her back. We went to a GI Specialist and they did an endoscopy, colonossopy and upper GI. For the past two weeks she now feels like everything she eats sits in her esophagus and does not empty into the stomach. When the upper GI was done they noticed that there was food sitting in her esophagus and not mving into her stomach. She feels like the food is going to come back up. This is very frustrating because both doctors now say they don’t know what it is or what to do for her. She has missed so much school and this has taken a major toll on her and our lives. Any ideas or suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

I had my gallbladder removed about 10 weeks ago. I had been sick for 6 months and did every test the doctors could think of. Finally found my GB was contracting at 14%. I had odd symptoms of chest pain, lots of gas / burping especially after eating, head aches, vision issues, back pain, stiff neck diarrhea for months, weight loss. Lightheaded, hot flashes. I thought I was dyeing. I never had the acute GB pain. I had the surgery and most of the symptoms stayed with me. BUT, every week got better. My digestive system now is great. I still get a little back and neck stiffness, but each week it gets better. If you suffer from what I did, and find you have a GB issue I suggest getting it out. The surgery was easy. Walk around a lot after. I was on the treadmill the day after my surgery. Take is easy for 6 weeks, but stay active. It does get better! I caused myself anxiety because I expected immediate results from the surgery. I found you need to give your body time to heal. Pray for peace and let your body heal and do not be afraid of gallbladder removal. If it is sick, get it out. Your life will be much better. Thank God for great surgeons thee days! Oh yeah, eat low fat. It helps greatly. And I drink beer with no problems.
