I stayed at the Batey’s ‘Home-Away’ house located just a few minutes down the road from the Batey’s office and the new cafe. Lush, green foliage surrounds the house and coffee on the verandah is a great way to start the day and the verandah is big enough to do yoga and stretches while listening to the frog peeps.

The kitchen is full equipped for cooking up your own meals however you should also check out the new café at Batey’s. It has fresh and vibrant dishes with local and organic ingredients. The mango and banana smoothie with coconut milk was the perfect refresher when I arrived and the bean burger after my horseback ride was the fortifying lunch I needed.

This was my first visit to Puerto Rico but it won’t be my last. Though I couldn’t bring home the warm temperature from Batey’s what I did bring home are wonderful memories of friendly and warm people who did everything to make my time memorable. I had a great horseback ride in the mountains, Jorge is an incredibly knowledgeable guide who takes great care of his riders and his horses. I didn’t get to the zip-lining, rock climbing and kayaking that Batey also offers, so I have to go back and I will certainly stay at the house but for a longer time next time through.
