To add, I have found there is a PID for TorquePro that will tell you how many kWh of electricity static electricity bill nye full episode your Bolt has consumed during its life. You can do a rough manual calculation by dividing the odometer reading by the lifetime miles/kWh number in the MyChevy app, but the PID figure includes charging losses. My Bolt, which has just over 36k miles on the odo, has used almost 11,000 kWh of energy to date.

Since I do all my charging at home that mean, not counting charging losses, I have spent about \$687.50 fueling my Bolt these past two years. My rates are 8 cents for summer months and 7 cents for winter months, so I just used 7.5 cents to split the difference. Now none of this accounts for charging losses, thus my question, i’m curious how far my rough estimate is off.

I believe the PID gives the lifetime value of energy that’s gone into the Bolt during charging events (not counting regen). So the PID will display the lifetime energy used to charge the national gas average 2012 Bolt inclusive of charging losses. If you divide your current miles by your lifetime miles/kWh figure, it’ll give you how much energy was used driving the Bolt sans charging losses. So if you want to know strictly the Bolt’s driving efficiency, calculating manually is the way to go.

It is almost impossible to know how much I spend on charging my EV since I have solar. If I estimate that I charged my car at \$0.13 per kWh for off-peak rates, my close to 50,000 miles have cost about 3.7 cents per mile. With maintenance my Bolt would have cost right at \$1900 for two years and 50,000 miles. A Prius would have cost me at least \$5000 in gas and maintenance.

However, I have solar. Which means I paid \$22,320 kansas gas service login upfront for my electricity. With the amazing EV-A rates I use 24,000 kWh per year for my house and cars. It will cost about \$200 per year extra for using energy off the grid as my battery. My solar system produces about 18,000 kWh. The average kWh cost in California is about \$0.20 per kWh. This is probably low when you consider tiers of owning a big house, like mine. It is probably closer to \$0.30 kWh wb state electricity board bill pay for someone who uses as much as I do. So 24,000 kWh at \$0.20 is \$4800. Five years is \$24,000, so within that time my solar will be completely paid off.

Now if you consider my life before EV’s. I paid typically about \$4000 in electric and \$5000 in gas per year. Those are low estimates by the way. So I think my solar and EV’s might be a wise investment… Payback on solar from that lifestlye is 2.5 years. So I consider my EV’s cost about \$200 per year to drive 40,000 miles.
