The last few years have been exciting for me. In 2013 I had the opportunity to take some time from university to go on a trip around the world with my grandmother. Of course I jumped at the chance and off we went for 4 months on the MS Amsterdam. I came back a completely different person and travel became an indispensable part of my life.

Not only did I get to see and experience in real life what I had only ever read in history books, but it really changed my life in a concrete way… Along the way I dropped 40 lb! When I got home I was inspired to lose a total of 100 lb alongside my family. My mom, dad and I motivate and help each other meet our goals to this day. Ironic how it’s all from losing weight on an all you can eat cruise ship.

Since then a lot has changed. I once again seized the opportunity to go around the world this past January, which was just as amazing an experience. I’ve been to over 60 different countries, six continents, love experiencing new cultures, cuisines, and most of all people. By next year I will be shaking my travel bug for a little while and settling in Mérida, Mexico.

I’m following my parents, who all ready to start their new life in Mérida. My mom has been working in Mexico City for 20+ years and decided she wanted make her dream home in Mérida. My family and I have been working in and visiting Mexico ever since I can remember, especially the Yucatan. Now we are excited to fully immerse ourselves into the Yucatecan culture and build our vacation rental business together, Burro y Flauta. We hope to get others just as excited about this beautiful city as we are.

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay at Casa Panda, from Burro y Flauta Vacation Rentals, last week for 10 days. We were delighted that the property was even better than expected. The Santa Anna location was very central and even though we had a car, we left it parked in front of the house most of the time and walked everywhere. Casa Panda‘s accommodations are stylish, comfortable and clean. The towels are large and fluffy, and smell good. The master bed is huge, and very comfortable. The sheets are really very good. The kitchen is well-equipped. The air conditioning, fans, and Wi-Fi all work really well. The washer/dryer took us a bit of getting used to but we were really happy to be able to do our laundry at the house.

One of the nice things about Casa Panda is that basic products are initially supplied and refreshed. Basic products like coffee, shampoo, toilet paper, drinking water, laundry detergent–we did not need to worry about them at all. There were one or two times when we ran out of things and all we had to do was send a text to the concierge and within hours we had what we needed. I thought that the level of service was good as any hotel we’ve stayed in. And it is infinitely nicer to have all the space of a 3 bedroom house then to be limited to one small hotel room.

When we first booked the property we anticipated that we would be alone, but some friends joined us at the last moment. We were really pleased that there was no extra charge for them, since there were enough bedrooms to accommodate them. And they loved the house as well.

But for us, the best thing about Casa Panda is the family that rents it. From my initial emails with Becca, who handles the Internet side of the Burro y Flauta Vacation Rentals, to meeting her mother and father who now live in Merida and run the business, I cannot say enough good things about how much richer our stay was for our interactions with them. They were helpful, interesting and engaging. We consider them to be friends.
