An updated colonial reimagined as a tranquil urban garden retreat, Casa Xaver gives up to 6 guests a prime spot for exploring vibrant Mérida. Outside its walls you’ll discover festive street fairs, historic plazas, exotic cuisine—and inside, a modern home whose sliding screens keep the focus on the cooling pool and soaring palms at its heart.

Freshly renovated Casa Xaver puts a modern spin on the traditional colonial home. A secluded courtyard, tropical vegetation, authentic pasta tile floors, tall wooden doors—the details that give a home true Yucatecan flavor have all been preserved, while the home’s updated floor plan opens cooking and lounging spaces to the gorgeous terrace. Comfortable modern furniture and vivid art complement the airy interior. Whip up a meal in the fully-equipped kitchen, swim in the pool, or lounge on the shaded patio—the retractable screen walls keep everyone connected, and allow light, sound, and air to flow freely. Each of the three bedrooms boast hotel-quality mattresses and linens plus private outdoor access, and two have their own en suite bathrooms. Amenities include A/C, WiFi, washer/dryer, and even a wine refrigerator.

Its location in the expat-favored neighborhood of Santiago puts Casa Xaver in the heart of the action. Stroll Paseo de Montejo, the city’s grand historic boulevard; taste Yucatecan specialities at restaurants; visit open-air markets—all within walking distance.

My husband and I rented Casa Xaver for our second trip to Merida and we could not have been happier. The house is beautiful, combining old colonial Spanish charm with modern day finishes. It is immaculately clean and very well equipped with everything you will need from a coffee pot and a blender to a wine chiller. We spent our mornings touring the city and the surrounding area and nearly every afternoon lounging poolside with some cervezas. The backyard is so peaceful and inviting that there were several evenings we did not want to leave even to go get dinner.

And while the home was incredibly comfortable, it was the kindness and responsiveness of the concierge staff at Remixto (namely Irving and Mariana) that really made our stay memorable. In fact, my husband came down very ill on the next to the last evening of our trip and after emailing Mariana, she showed up at the house with a thermometer and medicine. She provided me with the name of a doctor that made house calls and she emailed me throughout the evening to check on him and to see if there was anything she could do to assist. She was so kind and helpful at a time when my husband and I felt absolutely helpless – it was very comforting to know that she was only a phone call or email away.

Casa Xaver is a beautiful home that not only affords guests the chance to really explore Centro but also affords them the opportunity to enjoy a little slice of paradise while at “home”. We highly recommend Casa Xaver and Remixto for your next trip to Merida.

This house is really lovely and an ideal spot for a city vacation. Very light and pretty, with the perfect Merida blend of birdsong and distant traffic sounds providing a backyard serenade. The pool and garden are private, but with an airy feeling. Nice sun throughout the day, but plenty of shade, too. The central living space is very inviting and workable. Very good beds and nice linens (although it’s time to provide new blankets/spreads.) The house was sparkling clean. The location is ideal. Close to restaurants, shops, and sites. (We love Oliva, Enoteca, which is a few blocks away.) We received excellent service from Jonathan at Remixto. He was responsive to every request and very welcoming and friendly. The pool wasn’t working properly, so that was the only hitch. But Jonathan and the pool crew did everything possible to accommodate us during our stay. They were planning to fix the underlying problem after we left. We recommend this house and Remixto highly. We would return without question.
