Logically, women are therefore much less represented in technical professions such as development or data science: among 27% of digital women, only 6% are developers.

The observation is as follows: although women have committed to digital, they have been mainly committed in sectors in which they were already present. This is not really progress. Nevertheless, the world of work has entered a transition phase. Indeed, half of the jobs of tomorrow do not yet exist: in a transhumanistic logic, many positions will emerge thanks to artificial intelligence and the technological innovations that will follow.

For women in tech, this represents a real opportunity to overcome social pressures to better understand the balance between private and professional life and, thus, advance their careers. In fact, the digital transformation promises to raise women’s profile. New professions, new frameworks: this change will be synonymous with diversity, but also, perhaps, with gender equality within companies.

Digital transformation is a profound transformation. Far from being limited to the adoption of new online tools to facilitate the processes, it presupposes a real questioning of the company’s structure, as well as of traditional management. Indeed, digital culture requires a complete decompartmentalization of the different professions and requires transversality. Digital is more than just tools: it is a way of work.

In this new work logic, women in tech have a major role to play. Without pitting the natural skills of men and women against each other, there is a female management style: with equal skills, it is generally the approach that makes the difference. But, in this change management, the approach is crucial.

For this, women bring added value, which is essential for the conduct of projects, especially in the context of a digital transformation: their ability to listen, federate and lead their teams to consensus are crucial when working in project mode. Also, to overcome digital transformation, companies must support this transformation through a company professional equality policy.

Asking the question about the role of women in the digital field is raising the question of parity in a growing sector that represents the future of our economy. In addition to offering new career opportunities for women, digital is a lever for professional equality between women and men. It can help reverse the current situation. It is the responsibility of women to take their place and of business leaders to adopt professional equality policies to support them.
