My checkin at Sydney Central station went quickly at 1:15. I was told that the train would begin boarding at 2 and that was accurate. Some passengers were sitting on the platform sipping drinks electricity 24 hours. When I enquirer where I could get one, no one was helpful. I finally captured an attendant leaving the train with a tray of drinks and I was able to grab one. When I boarded the train I was shown to my small gold class single cabin. Another review stated that the gold class single cabins should be called silver class and I would have to agree with that. While there was a wash basin in the room, the toilet and shower were located at separate ends of the car. I only had a short wait to use the shower on Friday morning and it was clean. Soap and shampoo were provided in a toiletry bag in the room. I was in car A and the Explorer Lounge was next to car D, so I had to walk through 4 cars to get there. Before dinner on Wednesday night I had a Sydney-brewed Four Wives ale that was nice. For dinner on Wednesday, I had salmon in the dining car and it was good but not gourmet as advertised. An Australian Chardonnay was a good compliment to the dinner. For an after dinner drink I enjoyed a Kaluha and milk in the lounge. I enjoyed watching the sun rise at the Miner’s Memorial. Upon return to the train there was a big line for breakfast but everyone was accommodated. Dinner on Thursday night was in the cooperage of the Yolumba winery after a tour of two wineries in the Barossa valley. It was served family style and once again was less than gourmet. I was looking forward to our lamb cookout in Rawalina on Friday but shortly after breakfast it was announced that because of heavy rain in that area that dinner would be served on the train. After a stop for water and fuel in Cook, it was non stop to Perth. Lamb was served for dinner on Friday but it did not have the same appeal as dinner under the stars in the Nullabor. We arrived on time on Saturday. Skipping the lamb roast on Friday was a big disappointment and the reason I can only give this trip four stars. We had a great trip over the 2 nights/3 days that we were k electric share price on board. Yes we had disturbed sleep because of the bumpy/noisy track but the bunk beds in the gold cabins were exceedingly comfortable with lovely linen and you can relax/chill/snooze if you want during the day. Food was great including the Rawlinna dinner under the stars. The dining car was well managed so we had some meals just the gas bubble in throat two of us and some with other travellers. You don’t get stuck with the same people over over. The staff were all without fail friendly, professional and efficient. I never witnessed any issues over closing time in the bar or generosity with the all inclusive drinks but I can see that it must be quite a delicate situation for the staff to manage as some of our fellow passengers were knocking back whisky soon after breakfast and carried on throughout the day. It would not be at all pleasant to be on board with seriously drunk and potentially disruptive passengers. Two nights was enough for us to enjoy the experience and I’m glad we only boarded in Adelaide.

I found this trip very uncomfortable. No sleep at all for 2 nights. Make sure you don’t get the last cabin in the carriage. We were in Q9. Cabins are numbered 1-9 . 9 is were the carriages join and constant people traffic slamming doors between the carriages made it quite noisy not to mention the constant jerking and rocking by the train itself. I was told that we were over the wheels of the train. The food was ok not great. We travelled from Perth to Adelaide many years ago and I remember the food was much better. They now include all drinks but I think the food has been sacrificed to compensate. Some of the meals were warm not hot. The excursions off the train were good except for the last one when we were told that port chocolates were been served. All well and extra strength gas x while pregnant good if you could find the people serving them. It was a waste of time, a Long walk off the train for basically no purpose. This should have been organised much better. The staff on the train were very friendly and good at there jobs but I would not travel this way again.
