This was our first time to Clearwater after many years vacationing at other beaches. The beach was beautiful and I’ve never seen so many large seashells. We had a lot of fun collecting them. Also enjoyed seeing dolphins very close to shore! Unfortunately the weather was not great (rain and thunderstorms every day but the last day!) but we still got out and enjoyed ourselves. Nice quiet section of beach that was great for our kids and dogs. Close drive to lots of restaurants, beach shops, and Pier 60. One day we drove to Orlando (2 hours) to take our 6 year old to Discovery Cove, and we also went to Clearwater Marine Aquarium to see Winter and Hope from the Dolphin Tale movies. The house comfortably held our 2 families consisting of 4 adults and 3 kids. There was tons of seating and space in the large living room. Everything we needed was at the house. The walk to the beach across the dunes was a little long but not too bad. Now our complaints about the house: the layout of the rooms was a little awkward. My husband and I (and baby in portacrib) slept in the queen bed room, and to get to the nearest bathroom we had to walk through the laundry room or the kitchen. For my brother or sister in law to use the laundry room they had to walk through our bedroom or that 3rd bathroom (including walking through the shower) The kitchen drawers and dishwasher appeared dated and didn’t work great. After running the dishwasher several times we realized the soap pod wasn’t dissolving because the lid didn’t open. Other appliances were more modern (microwave, oven, stovetop) and worked fine. Overall we had a positive experience, but for the price we have stayed in more updated houses.

We are thrilled you enjoyed lovely Clearwater beach and easy access from our Sea Shore Beach home – thank you for your stay. Watching a storm from the cozy inside vantage point through the wall of western windows can be quite spectacular and after the storm has passed so many new shells are washed ashore. So glad you found that the home had everything you needed for a comfortable family vacation and that the living space was large and worked well even for two families with children and pets. Our Sea Shore home is a spacious 2800 sq. feet with large western exposure deck and patio enjoying 85 feet of glorious Gulf of Mexico frontage at a natural uncrowded beach. As many did, this beach house began as a cabana for the Carlouel Yacht Club and was added onto over the years thus creating a fun and funky floor plan. Quite different from trying to fit into multiple hotel rooms – the luxury of space, full kitchen, ability to include family dogs and direct access to the uncrowded residential beach (and without additional resort fees, parking fees, fees for rollaways/baby equipment or tipping) can be a wonderful option for families. We do find the dishwasher works best with powder or liquid. This is a family home with cherished memories of grandchildren growing up loving the sea and we limit our bookings accordingly. Taxes are sky-high and your patronage helps us cover costs and share our cherished home with other families!

When we arrived the house did not seem to be in the condition portrayed in the photos and I had to spend hours making it habitable for our family for the week. The house in general was not at all up to the standards I would have expected for the amount we paid for the week. The yard in both front and back is over-grown, has piles of leaves everywhere and clearly has not been regularly maintained. The garage smells like a dead animal and is full of junk. The decor of the whole house is incredibly dated with dust covered knickknacks and plastic plants everywhere and the furniture setup is cluttered and not at all functional. My daughter is allergic to dust so I had to spend a considerable amount of time cleaning all of that so she could even sleep in the space. (There were plastic plants covered in dust that appeared not to have been cleaned or moved in 30 years). The sliding glass doors in the living room, queen room and MBR are barely functioning-hard to open or do not open at all. The faucet in the powder room is coming loose from the wall and drips. The kitchen was full of old broken or randomly mismatched pots and pans, plates, silverware and cups (I could barely find enough matching decent looking dishes to set the table for one meal.) And many of the dishes in the cupboard were sticky or still had old food stuck on. The dishwasher came loose from the counter every time it was opened. There was no cover on the open plastic trash bin so the trash had to be constantly taken out so it wouldn’t make the whole house smell) The cabinet doors under the sink are rotting from water damage and the drawers are difficult to open and the handles and shelves were sticky and unclean so I had to wash all of those before I could even let my kids eat off the dishes or touch anything in the kitchen. Every closet and the laundry room were stuffed with random stained tattered old mis-matched blankets, comforters, sheets and towels. The mirrored door in MBR was broken. The outdoor furniture on the back deck is mismatched, dated, and some pieces are broken.

Goodness. It is certainly true that beauty and comfort are in the eye of the beholder. This home is decorated for casual and comfortable life at the beach and is exactly the same one enjoyed and given a 5-star review by another family just the week before. Over many years of hosting we have never received less and 5 stars! I do wish that you would have communicated with us during your stay. We always like to have happy guests and we thought all was well. Particularly as when my husband spoke with your husband during your stay he told him everything was great and that they were loving the location. I must say it was quite disappointing when I arrived to have the home cleaned for another family arriving the same day of your departure and found that even large furniture as well as tables, lamps and decorative items had been moved and completely changed around. We like our guests to be comfortable but if you rearrange, please be courteous and put at least the big things back in its places before you leave. This home holds many cherished memories for my family and our hope is that our guests will share the same!
