Gornergrat (zermatt) – 2018 all you need to know before you go (with photos) – tripadvisor gas appliance manufacturers association

To travel to the top Gornergrat station, you will need to travel first to Zermatt. Certainly during the skiing season you would need to purchase a ticket at Zermatt for the funicular train from Zermatt to Gornergrat. (The 2 stations are more or less next door to each other in Zermatt). (I am not sure, but you may be able to buy a combined ticket that includes travel to Zermatt and includes a tip up to Gornergratt)

Please be aware that a recent check on Google directions suggest that a trip by public transport from Montreux to Gornergrat take between 3.5 and 4 hours. If you are considering driving, be aware that Zermatt is a car free area and you would need to check how near you can drive to and where to park etc

Whilst snow remains on the glacier on the Kleine Matterhorn side right through the year and offers summer skiing, I suspect that summer skiing is not generally thought of as applying to the Gornergrat side of the resort. However, that does not necessarily mean that there is no snow!! In order to establish the likely weather/temperature conditions at the Gornergrat Station towards the end of May your best bet would be to contact the tourist office

During the skiing season (and possibly throughout the year) there are some facilities at the top station such as lavatories, I am not sure whether or not there are restaurants. However, there does seem to be a hotel just above the end station. It is the kulmhotel gornergrat . I do not know what facilities it offers (do not confuse this with the Gornergrat Hotel in Zermatt itself – completely different establishmen
