Guffey community charter school n gas price

This year we have one 8th grader who will be graduating from Guffey School. She will be presenting her comprehensive and creative project on May 10th at 10am. Friends, family and Guffey community are all invited to come see what our 8th grade project assignment consists of and to see Sophia’s presentation which is unique to her – her story and her goals. Come to cheer Sophia on, to be entertained, and to feel proud of our students and our school – all are welcome!

Students and family members are invited to cozy up in pajamas with a cup of tea, hot chocolate or coffee while we enjoy reading books, listening to poetry & stories written and recited by our students. We will have a short intermission with muffins and music followed by the middle schoolers performing a short Shakespearean play! Students are asked to bring pillows, blankets and their favorite stuffed animal.

May 31st is our last day of school! Please join us for a fun ceremony as we celebrate ALL of our students, say "fare-thee-well" to Sophia who is going to high school and to Mrs P-H, our talented and dedicated middle school teacher. This will be a day of celebration for all. There will be a potluck to follow the ceremony. Time will be announced shortly.

As many of you may have heard or read, Guffey School is going to be planning celebrations which will be starting some time next year. Our schoolhouse here in town was built in 1918 and will be turning 100 years old – we think this calls for celebrations of our history, our wonderful little school and this small but mighty community of Guffey.

As our planning continues, we are hoping to put together a Story Project, some field trips and a Tile Project. For our Story Project we are asking people to come forward with a story about the school or a piece of Guffey history that can be related to the school. Once we have some stories lined up we will be planning story-telling events at the school with pot luck suppers. We would also like to plan some field trips to coincide with some of your stories.

We will finish out our year of celebrations with a Tile Project. For this project we will be planning a community-wide/school event in which everyone who would like to come make a tile for a wall display will be welcome. This will be a chance to share your artistic skills and/or to honor someone who has given or continues to give to our school. We are still ironing out the details for this fun-filled, grand finale of sorts. We will be planning other activities to take place while the tile making is going on, such as movies on the lawn and a taffy-pulling party all while we make tiles, which will then be fired and eventually used to make a wall display at school.

I am very excited for all of these celebrations for so many reasons. To celebrate our history is to come together for the purpose of sharing a piece of ourselves and our history with our community members. This is a call out to the community, to come together, to celebrate the history of our unique school and our wonderful children who have graced its rooms. To find what we have in common and to place our focus there. And selfishly, being new to living in Guffey, I’m excited to learn more about the area and to be able to explore some of the areas in which we learn about through stories. We are so blessed to be surrounded by the beauty of these mountains, to have such a one-of-a-kind school and to be a part of such a strong, united community.
