When booking this property I was looking for a place to create memories with my children, their spouses and my 16 grandchildren due to my terminal cancer. This place was amazing! Each family had their own space yet the grand kids also had rooms to support their friendships. Their weren’t any tourist attractions to distract us from the purpose of the weekend. My family really didn’t want to leave and return to reality.

POSITIVES: The large pool, hot tub, pool table, shuffle board, countless movies, plenty of seating for meals, separate wing with additional kitchen. Ted did respond within a reasonable time to address issues on heating of the pool/home. Lots of refrigerator space, alarm on the pool area, lots of bathrooms, big screen TV downstairs, very homey,

NEGATIVES: Heating system is very confusing. Since the temperatures were record lows we couldn’t seem to heat the house well and having to leave the gas fireplace doors open, with small children. was stressful. Additional fees were tacked on from the VRBO quote. I understood the additional heating of the pool fee but the signs in the pool area quoted a lesser price than we were charged. Also the daily rate is quoted by VRBO yet an additional fee was charged because we were there over a holiday weekend. You would think that would have been on the calendar with VRBO. Space heaters in the bedrooms were very concerning with small children. Since there were 3 electrical engineers in our family there was definitely concern over the wiring in the home. Examples are multiple appliances plugged into a power strip hanging off walls, appliance cords run inside the wall instead of plugging into an outlet. It was very confusing to find light switches. We had ants in the additional kitchen and we had to throw away good food. The entry way chandelier looked like it was coming loose from the ceiling. We had to continually reset the breakers on the washer and dryer.

This was by far the COLDEST new years EVER in Winchester (record low temps approaching -15 degrees and high winds) As a result, we needed to have space heaters in the bedrooms farthest away from the central heating to help keep our guests warm and recommended they leave the gas fireplace open to maximize heat in the living room. We regret that our guests found this stressful.

When we learned that our guests were having an issue with the pool heat, we responded immediately and discovered that during their stay the pool filter had become clogged triggering a low pressure fault on the heater. We cleaned the filter and the pool heater kicked back in and heated the pool back to a comfortable temperature.

Regarding the extra VRBO fees, we charge a winter pool heating fee (in winter only) as a normal practice and an extra fee for holiday weekends. Because these fees are seasonal and holiday date driven, VRBO does not calculate these fees into their daily rate estimates initially published on their site or in the initial system generated quote, so there is always a discrepancy between the VRBO estimate and the final quote. However, the final quote we provide is always accurate and honored.

The guests’ concerns with the wiring is something we take very seriously. To my knowledge there was 1 issue with an extension cord being used through a wall and one circuit breaker protected power strip had been used in the kitchen These two issues have been corrected.

This is the first and only time we have ever had a complaint regarding circuit breakers on the washer/dryer being tripped or confusion anout light switch locations. We will be engaging an electrician to conduct a full wiring safety check on the house – including the entry way chandelier – to review and correct any issues he may find. Rest assured that guest safety and comfort are our primary concerns.
