I can’t say enough positive things about our five-day stay at this comfortable cottage on Lake Hawkins! From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. The cottage was clean and charmingly decorated (fishing theme) without the clutter that would have made its compact size feel cramped. It was very well appointed too, with a fully equipped kitchen with small table and breakfast bar, queen-sized bedroom with closet, bathroom with shower and washer/dryer, comfortable living area with loveseat, sofa and chair, also flat-screen TV with Dish, AC, portable heaters and wifi. The cell reception was a bit iffy at times (we have ATT and mostly had coverage with one or two bars). There was a huge deck out front facing the lake on the other side of the road. Since we had our dogs with us, I was a little concerned about traffic on this road, but during the weekdays there was a car maybe once every 15-20 minutes; on the weekend there was a bit more, but not enough to be a significant safety issue. The rear of the house backed up to the woods, so very quiet and very relaxing! There was a screened in boathouse and a swing on the dock so plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view. I can imagine in the summer the ladder into the water comes in handy for swimming! Our dogs enjoyed wading in the shallow water near shore and sitting on the deck, enjoying the warm sunshine. Which is what brings to one of the reasons this cottage was so special–it is truly dog friendly! For a minor extra fee, we got to bring our pups with us instead having to find someone to take care of them at home. The other reason we loved our stay here was how friendly and helpful the hosts were. Allen and Rhonda were the epitome of hospitality; Allen was super quick to respond to questions via text and Rhonda even extended an invite to come over to their cabin next door for shelter if severe weather threatened (fortunately we did not have to take her up on that!) About the only suggestion I might have for them would be to have a battery-operated lantern available in case of power outages at night (which we experienced due to the storms that rolled through the area). We had a very small flashlight and our phones, which we were loathe to use, not knowing how long the outage would last.
