Lunazul – incredible bvi and natl. monument… – homeaway gas dryer vs electric dryer calculator

I had to pick April 2016 on this form because it only goes back one year. We have stayed at Lunazul twice – but in August 2013 and May 2015. I am beginning to plan a future vacation, and thinking about where to go, and realized that I have been very amiss in never writing a review for my prior stays at Lunazul. There’s a good reason why there are 34 reviews and ALL of them are 5/5. Stan and Kathy are absolutely wonderful hosts, and this property was built by them and was a labor of love. All the pictures that you see are completely accurate, and it is a stunning view. On our first trip in August 2013 we arrived way after dark due to a major flight delay. It was hard to tell where we were due to overcast skies that night. When we woke up in the morning to that view, it was unbelievable. It just didn’t look real – it was our first time on St John. We had zero problems on both our vacations – Stan was available always for questions and assistance. We cooked great meals and ate outside on the porch practically every day. The property is up on the side of Bordeaux Mtn, which must have been why we had no mosquito or other bug problems at all. It is quiet, serene, beautiful. It also gets frequent gentle breezes, and was always comfortable. Both our stays were in the off-season, and I was worried about the weather being too hot, but it was just fine both times due to villa location up high. The A/C in the two bedrooms worked fine. On my second visit in May 2015 I had a flat tire on the Jeep while leaving for one of our day beach trips, and had to turn around and limp back in a panic due to being far from Cruz Bay. Nail in the tire. Stan immediately came out with his tools and air pump and helped me change that heavy tire. All in all – and I know this well from both trips – they are a "class act" and you should not have any qualms whatsoever about staying at Lunazul. We are hoping to return for a third visit. I recommend it highly.

My family of 4, including 2 kids, ages 12 and 9, spent a week at Lunazul… and we are definitely missing that breathtaking view. We drove all over the island, to a different beach every day, and never once saw a view as beautiful as the view from Lunazul. It looks fabulous in the pictures, but it’s even better in person.

From the first time I contacted him, Stan was extremely prompt at responding to calls or emails. He was also very helpful in answering questions or providing recommendations when asked. He is very accessible if you need him (we accidentally locked our keys in the bedroom). Stan also met us in Coral Bay on arrival, and led us to the villa in his car, followed by a tour of the villa.

The villa is perfectly located just a few minutes above Coral Bay, so it was very easy to drive down the mountain to restaurants and to the Dolphin Market. (By the way, if you download the app called island e-guide, Dolphin Market gives you a 15% discount every time you shop, when you show the app). We were happy we chose the Coral Bay side of the island, as it is much more peaceful than Cruz Bay. It’s also only about a 15 min. drive to the north shore beaches, so it’s easier to get to those beaches from Coral Bay vs. Cruz Bay.

The villa is beautifully landscaped, and the pictures don’t do it justice. It looks even better in person. It was spotless on arrival as well. The bedrooms are downstairs and separate from each other with an exterior, locking door for each bedroom, which we knew in advance, but this was not an issue for us, since our children are older. Each bedroom has its own en suite bathroom. The beds are extremely comfortable and AC is available, but we never needed to turn it on because of the breezes at the villa’s high elevation. We never had any issue with mosquitoes. The pool was heated to a comfortable temperature. It does get late afternoon shade, so if the day is breezy, it’s best to swim earlier in the day, simply due to the air temperature (March for us, so this may be different in summer). The villa is stocked with beach chairs, beach towels, a cooler, a float and pool noodles, so no need to pack any of that. Laundry is conveniently located below the villa, so we packed light and did laundry twice. The driveway is paved and wide enough to turn around, so that you don’t have to back out. There is an outside shower to wash off any sand from the beach.

2. Despite having a great view, it only takes 5 minutes to get down the hill to "downtown" Coral Bay. The flip side of that: renters should know you should have a 4 wheel vehicle to stay at this property. This necessity will serve you well if you plan to explore the rest of the island.

3. The house is nicely equipped. We ate every breakfast and dinner in and went out for many lunches (or packed lunches for the beach). There are nice beach chairs, bags, and towels for your use. We did some laundry throughout the week so that we could pack light. The washer/dryer are conveniently located in the basement level of the house.

Note of caution or a positive upside, depending on your party: The bedrooms are on the bottom level, accessible via stairs outside the house. I wouldn’t recommend this house for folks with toddlers or mobility issues. Our party had no problems with this and actually liked the separation of living space and bedrooms for purposes of some of our family sleeping in while others were awake.

We were blessed with a wonderful week on St. John and enjoyed an amazing stay at Lunazul. Pre-trip interactions with Stan were flawless, thorough, and with a quick response. Check-in was easy. The pictures from the porch do not do this place justice, just so much better in person! I do think it has the best views on island. We spent our mornings and evenings soaking in the view with full moons and rainbows, even got two sunset pink skies!

The house itself is immaculate and well maintained. Has all the amenities you could need for the week. The pool was warm enough for me to get in, which is rare, even when we stay on the south shore. We liked the outdoor shower for rinsing off before getting in the pool. The bedroom set up is perfect for two couples and the beds were very comfortable. Plenty of towels for the bath and the beach. I loved the clothesline for hanging the wet gear.

We had one very minor issue with our bath valve which was fixed immediately by Stan. Stan and Kathy were unobtrusive, but there if you needed them for anything and were a real joy to talk to. Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for us for the week! Our friends and us made wonderful memories and Lunazul was a big part of it.
