Mountain views and seclusion in a rustic mi… – vrbo electricity distribution network

Two bedrooms accommodate up to four guests (one queen, one double) and the library loft has a day bed that turns into two twin mattresses. Kitchen, dining room, living room, and a gas grill on the deck (from which you can see the creek) complete the house, which is situated back from the road on 35 acres. Bluff House is 2 hours from the George Washington Bridge.

In winter and summer, Bluff House affords gorgeous views of Catskill Forest Preserve from the dining room, kitchen, and South Bedroom, and all along the bluff. Catskill Creek is a scramble down the bluff and runs through the property. Our woods are filled with mushrooms, berries, diverse trees and plant life, and a matching community of birds and animals. You are less than 15 minutes to shopping in Cairo and close to delicious dinners at Ruby’s Hotel and movies at the Greenville Drive-In.

In summer, the property is perfect for short hikes, birding, and cooling off in the creek’s cool, clean water. Horseback riding is just up the road, good fishing is close (big trout have been fished in this section, but most are hatchlings), the Catskill Nature Preserve is a 20 minute drive for hiking and cycling, and even zip-lining is a few minutes away at Zoom Flume. The annual Grey Fox Bluegrass and East Durham Irish music festivals are in the neighborhood. In winter, the property is ideal for cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. Downhill skiing is a 25 minute drive to Windham, or 35 minutes to Hunter.

Built in 1969, Bluff House was conceived with mid-century flair by the local art teacher who lived in it and lovingly maintained it for 50 years. In taking over the house, my partner, Mical, and I are doing our best to keep the integrity of his vision. This is the opposite of a complete renovation. Almost everything in the house is original, and the furnishings we’ve brought to it are either from the period or in its spirit (I am a furniture maker and a number of the house’s pieces are my own). There is WiFi but there is no TV and there is no dishwasher.

We are LGBTQ friendly and dog positive (dogs must be respectful of the local wildlife). Most of the house is on one floor (only the loft is up a ladder) and there is ramp access. The front door and bathroom may require limited mobility. If you use a wheelchair, please call us for details so that we can give you a better sense of whether the house would suit you. We have not child-proofed and recommend you only bring children older than 6.

We want you to enjoy your visit. You will have the house and property to yourselves (though someone may come to mow the lawn). We have WiFi, a working gas fireplace, outdoor gas grill, washer and dryer, hose for washing down your bike or your dog, a long driveway for parking. Cell service is good at the house. There is no TV or dishwasher. Both bedrooms have sliding doors for summer breezes and a view of the stars. The kitchen has all the basics for cooking, such as pots, pans, rolling pin, lasagna pans, spices, oil and vinegar. For extended stays, we’ll arrange for the rooms, towels, and linens to be cleaned and changed. View more
