No water, no electricity and worst of all no wifi – review of the view hotel resort, corralejo, spain – tripadvisor gas pain relief

We got a brilliant deal from Broadway Travel and weren’t disappointed. In contrast to some of the previous reviews we experienced only friendly, efficient and hard working staff, from cleaners to reception and especially in the restaurant. Not sure what other reviewers were used to but we enjoyed the meals, the buffet breakfast had a good range of cereal, fresh fruit, cold meats and cheese, crepes, cakes plus the usual toast, juices and unlimited tea/coffee. All this plus a cooked breakfast menu. The staff never stopped replenishing the dishes, taking orders and clearing tables. They could not have done more! The evening meals were beautifully presented, were delicious and served by friendly, efficient staff who, where they could, accommodated our requests. You even got a free starter with your meal. Not sure you would get this in the uk! The villas were spacious, comfortable and clean. I have stayed in rented apartments etc for years and previous comments re lack of cleaning materials puzzle me. This is normal, I have always had to provide my own and the comment about the wind made me laugh. Think the wind surfing schools etc were a clue. Don’t go to an island known for the wind! The free shuttle bus was handy and it is possible to walk into town which we did even though two of us are in our seventies and one in her sixties, we are fairly fit and it took us about 45 mins. Taxis are actually 3.60 euros but with a tip most people pay 5 euros and they are easy to find in town. Transfer times vary as they have to do drop offs and pick ups at other hotels. Fairly normal I think. I wouldn’t criticise only having access at the entrance near the reception as this is for security reasons and made us feel safe. The site is quiet and if you, like us, want a relaxing week with a bit of walking and good meals with access to a lovely town where there is good shopping, markets and bars/restaurants you should enjoy it. We had five star service for a three star price and enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Stayed here in a 3 bed villa for 1 week at the end of April, booked via Broadway Travel. We chose to hire a car, (picked up at the airport.) Unless you are going to stay in your villa and not go anywhere much, it is probably a good idea to hire one. (Corralejo is 45 minute walk, although cabs are apparently €5. The resort transfer service only runs until 17.00.) The villa accomodation itself was fine but faded. Pool is small, but there is a reasonable sized outside area. Soft furnishings within the villa are pretty basic, a very thin coverlet on the bed and thin towels. As others have mentioned, the villas are not well equipped. Take your own: washing up liquid, 3 in one dishwasher tablets, tea towel, pegs, (to secure clothing to the airer provided as it’s very windy), antiseptic cleaning wipes and laundry detergent. (Really don’t know why a small supply couldn’t be provided of detergents etc. Having to buy a box of all/any of these in a supermarket on arrival is totally inappropriate.) Also take mosquito repellent and a plug in repellent device.j A kettle was provided, along with 1 small towel in the kitchen of indeterminate nature. We had to buy a corkscrew as again, none was supplied. Breakfasts at the resort were a form of organised chaos. You have to select a slot for breakfast, 08.00/09.00/10.00 and keep this time for the duration of your stay. On most mornings items were not replenished very quickly, be that food, drinks or glasses, cups or plates. There were also regular issues with coffee machines and toasters not working. There was plenty of choice available: cold meats, cheeses, fruits, pastries, bread rolls etc and hot food to order. However on at least 2 mornings, items from the cooked to order menu were not available. (Bacon on 2 consecutive days!) On a couple of mornings it took 30 minutes before our order for cooked food was taken. The staff were pleasant and hardworking, (although perhaps not enough of them), it is clearly the organisation that is at fault. Like others, we had 2 free meals included, a BBQ and paella, (although on different nights to those mentioned on here.) Due to the shambles at breakfast, the comments on here about these dinners, and the fact that our 2 meals were on consecutive nights, we chose to just attend one, the BBQ. (Note, food is actually cooked in the kitchen, not on a BBQ!) This was a 3 course meal, and unlike some of the experiences of others posting, plenty of meat was provided! (However another guest staying reported that portions had been very small when they attended the BBQ.) The restaurant is described as gourmet, but that is really not the case. The villa was cleaned every day except Sunday and Wednesday, (although to varying standards.) As mentioned we had a car. Each villa has a carport behind gates. Although the entrance to this is dropped, it is a steep slope and the parking space is not that wide, making it quite challenging to use the space. On our first night, we left the car outside and were phoned at 21.00 and told to put the car inside. On another occasion, we returned to the villa at 18.30, and left the car outside as we were going out a couple of hours later. Again we received a call telling us to put the car inside. Do watch the gates as once while manoeuvring into the carport, one of the gates came loose and crashed into the side of the car. Thankfully no damage was done. We had issues with the TV remote control and this was replaced quickly, along with the TV on our first night. (However, there are plenty of international channels available to view, but no English ones!) WiFi worked OK once my husband had fiddled with the router on arrival. On our last morning when returning the keys to reception, we were told the villa had to be inspected before we could leave. (We rent self catering properties regularly and this has never happened before.) No notification was given in advance of this (either on check in, or the day before.) Thankfully we had allowed plenty of time to get to the airport, but if you were cutting it fine this delay could be a major problem. Unfortunately, there is a very rigid feel to Ananda Resort, e.g. breakfast times as described above, 1 member of staff demanding to see our breakfast voucher 3 days in a row, the calls about moving the car etc. (Another guest told us they had arrived at midday, knowing the villa wouldn’t be available until 16.00. Even at 15.55 they were not allowed access to it!) This did not make for the most relaxing environment. We cottoned onto this immediatety and decided to just look on it as a base. All in all a very mixed experience.
