The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo has undertaken to raise funds for the purchase of the Pismo Preserve. If successful, the completion of Pismo Preserve will open up nearly 900 coastal acres to the public, providing spectacular scenic views, great multi-use trailsfor equestrians, biking, hiking, as well as wildlife protection. ) Deborah Cash and I am the Executive Director of the San Luis Obispo Downtown Association . I recently spoke to the RAMS Club of SLO at their weekly breakfast. While a portion of my talk focused on ‘what’s happening in Downtown SLO,’ I also spoke about an upcoming event that we are starting this year, a Veterans’ Celebration at Farmers Market on November 12. The Downtown Association would like to begin an annual tradition of honoring veterans during the week of Veterans Day at the Thursday night market with military activities including a short parade, military bands, color guard, military information booths representing the different branches of the military and more. We have just begun setting up our planning committee and invite anyone who would like to join the committee to do so. To view information about the Downtown Association, please visit our website www.downtownslo.com . I speak regularly to community groups and would be happy to come and share Downtown information with your organizations as well.

My presentation can last between 20 minutes and 1 hour, it all depends on how much time I am allotted. I tell some of my stories about my time in New Orleans as a volunteer during the hurricane recovery efforts. Then I talk about being prepared locally, giving examples of how we can get ready as a community. No pitch for money. I also mention a bit about being a volunteer with the Red Cross in this county.
