Oceanfront oasis with infinity pool and spa… – vrbo u gas station near me

Our family (two adults, five children under ten + one grandma) absolutely loved our stay at The Cove. While the property is far from the resort beaches of Kona and the northern parts of the Big Island, it was perfectly located for our purposes. We set aside one day to drive around the entire island, enjoying beaches, waterfalls and lava flow along the way. Every other day we set out early for adventures: hiking, splashing and snorkeling (our kid’s new favorite activity!) at Hawaii Volcanoes NP, Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, Papakolea Green Sand Beach or Kahalu’u Beach Park. Every afternoon we returned to The Cove with plenty of time to enjoy the amazing pool and sunsets while cooking dinner. Having The Cove (stocked by our initial trip to Costco near the airport) as our homebase allowed us to make our first trip to Hawaii the perfect blend of exploration and relaxation. Thank you Craig and Melanie for the easy process, excellent communication, friendly recommendations and above and beyond extras (the home truly has everything anyone would need, and the extra pool floats were a big hit!) If we are ever lucky enough to venture this way again, we would stay at this property in a heartbeat.

This was our first trip to Hawaii and we chose the Big Island because there is so much to do. We have 5 kids so we wanted a rental house verses a hotel room and this house was perfect! It is an hour drive from Kona, but the drive is unique and enjoyable! You pass little towns and coffee places, beautiful trees and different flowers, plus you can see the ocean for most of it. The road down to the house only takes about 10 minutes and while it is twisty, it’s not as bad as some people have said it was.

Melanie and Craig had everything ready and waiting. The house is fully stocked and ready to go. We did have a small issue with the hot tub(Craig had just updated the system but one of the valves wasn’t operating correctly). I texted Melanie and Craig came to fix it within 20 minutes.

The pool was amazing! Like I said we have 5 young kids and the pool worked for all of them. There is a good section of the pool that is only about 1ft deep. The smaller children loved playing here, plus I was able to sit my chair in the water and enjoy it too! The rest of the pool was a good depth, and the temperature was refreshing! I could see how it might feel chilly during winter months but we were here at the end of April to early May and it was perfect for the weather. A couple of days we spend just relaxing at the house with a cooler next to the pool and enjoyed our drinks and snacks.

We knew coming out here that we were on rocky coast line but it was definitely neat. Our kids are used to hiking rocks so they were pretty good but if your kids are not used to it, then I would use caution or go to a different beach to explore. Obviously we all stayed close and they were able to enjoy the two tide pools that were there. They could also see the yellow tangs and a couple other fish that you could see by just looking in the water. Craig was kind enough to lend us his rope so my husband and I could tie off and scuba right there next to the house. WOW! It was amazing! The water is so crystal clear! That was such a kind gesture of Craig and I’m so happy we got that opportunity, it was unforgettable.

For us, the house was in a great spot for what we had planned. We knew there was going to be driving since we came to explore the island. The house is only about and hour from Kona, but in between there are so many bays and coffee places to stop at so it’s really neat. It was an 1 and 15 mins from Volcano National which we visited twice and about 2 hours from Hilo.

First of all, I have to express gratitude to Melanie and Craig for allowing us to book this house well in advance of our travel since it was a retirement trip for my friend. The house is exactly as described and we found it to be very comfortable. It was also very well equipped. Probably our favorite extras were the fans which provided white noise to cover snoring and coughs (yes, we all got some crazy cough). The pool was a little cold for us to use much, but the hot tub was a delight. We were there every night looking at the beautiful sky. Loved the sounds of the waves crashing. I could definitely get used to living there:). My only complaint is that there is no TV on the main floor of the house. I am a terrible insomniac and would have liked to have a TV during those 1 a.m. periods of no sleep. There is one downstairs, but you have to go outside to access it. Also, two suggestions – have a refrigerator downstairs. Since you really need to stock up before the journey to the house, an overflow frig would be great AND it would be so nice to have a place to stash sodas (and margaritas) next to the pool. The second is to include on the intro to the house, instructions on how to operate the fan/lights. After traveling for almost 24 hours and arriving to darkness in the house, we had a hard time figuring out the lights. Also a complaint that is not within Craig and Melanie’s control are the large dogs across the street. They bark at every person, car and sometimes it seemed leaves blowing in the wind. They did take them in around 10 at night so at least they didn’t bark all night. As to the location, we loved it because the little village was so quiet and the sitting next to the ocean was magical. But know that it is a solid hour’s drive from Kona. However, there are two decent markets to the south. No fancy ingredients, but they had all the basics and only 15 to 20 minutes away (also super cheap gas in the same center). All in all, I highly recommend this beautiful place. Craig and Melanie were great to work with. Thank you for allowing us to stay here especially during the holidays since I know you use it for your family.
