!On water, boat incl. dock, ac, large scree… – vrbo gas in back

Recently decorated top to bottom by award-winning design team JRML of Norfolk, VA, The Shore House is a gorgeous, peaceful escape. The huge covered deck stretches along the back of the house overlooking the water where you can watch the herons, egrets and osprey to your heart’s content. There is also a library tucked amidst the four upstairs bedrooms that overlooks the water and is fully stocked with a wide variety of books.

If you want more action you are a short walk from the town of Onancock which has antique stores, outdoor food market, wonderful restaurants, a movie theater, a drama theater, a gourmet food/wine shop as well as a town wharf. Park your car and leave it!

The house was built in 1999 by a builder for his family and therefore the lay-out is bright, spacious and well-designed. The first floor of the house accommodates the master bedroom/bath suite, a full laundry room, a fully equipped kitchen a large family room with a game table, a formal living and dining room. The second floor has two kids’ rooms with two twins each and a Jack ‘n Jill bath as well as two queen rooms that have a separate bath.

Our dock moors a 20 foot Maycraft motor boat, canoe and kayak. These can take you in 15 minutes to remote state-protected beaches where you will be the only ones around for miles! At Mallard’s, 5 minutes away more kayaks can be rented as well. The dock is also great for crabbing.

Within driving distance are two golf courses in Cape Charles (30 minutes), the famous Chincoteague/Assauteague Preserve where horses roam on the beaches (60 minutes by car), several places to charter boats in Wachapreague (‘The Flounder Capital of the World’, 15 mins) and in Cape Charles (30 minutes). Wallops Visitor Center, the up and coming star of the NASA rocket launching pads, is a 40 min drive north. There are also two grocery stores, fast food restaurants and other restaurants within a five minute drive.

In addition, our summer, full-paying guests will have access to the amenities at the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club (15 min drive). Guests of ours may use the pool for only $5.00 per person and may pay a small fee to use the golf course, dining room etc. This is a very special and generous offer on behalf of the country club.

The house is nice, large, and has comfy furniture. Ants are every where, upstairs and downstairs. The largest bedroom with an on-suite bath has the smallest bed, a full bed. Other rooms have queen size, this seems to be wrong. The description states a boat is on the property, I wrote to say that it is very important to me that it be in working order, the gas gauge does not work and the depth finder does not work. The lights did not work. This is a safety matter for me to be sure I have enough gas to get around on the open water. The beach mentioned in the description, (15 min. away) is by boat, not everyone in my group can lift themselves from chest deep water back into the boat, boat had no steps or ladder. Before booking, my email questions were answered quickly. After I paid, no reply to email and phone call questions were answered curtly or never returned, as if my 2 calls were a bother. A book including the beach names, directions would have been helpful. Also nice restaurants are in the area, menu and a list of them would have helped. The Sage Dinner is good food at a great price, Hotel Charlotte and Bizzotti’s are upscale dinning. The Corner Bakery a must for the fresh and delicious baked goods. The town has Antique stores and Art Galleries, Danny Doughty is at the Gallery and a wonderful artist, with plenty of town info. Kerr House is a nice free visit to a historical home, donations taken.

We welcome feedback and appreciate your candor. Many apologies for the troubles you encountered. The ants have been taken care of. As mentioned in the boat usage info. sheet, we encourage all guests to replace boat gas after usage and I’m sorry that did not occur. While the gas gauge works you’re correct in that the depth gauge is very troublesome and seems to have a mind of its own despite repairs. I agree that should be mentioned in the boat sheet. As for the boat "lights" I’m not sure to what you’re referring . Perhaps because we’ve never used it at night, it’s not an issue of which we are aware so I will look into that. As for the beaches, we pull the boat up to the beach so no one has to hoist themselves in and out which I agree would be difficult for most. A ladder, however, would be helpful and we try to keep one on the boat or in the garage but they tend to get misplaced. We will get that corrected ASAP. The bed in the master suite is indeed a queen, so, I’m not sure what to say about that. The restaurants are listed in the welcome sheet, I’m sorry you missed that. We have put a copy in the house for easier access.
