Designed to be pedestrian-friendly, Palmer Ranch neighborhoods typically include wide sidewalks, winding roads, beautiful landscaping, and nature trails in or near most homes. The Legacy Trail, roughly 14 miles long, runs directly along and through portions of Palmer Ranch. This popular walking/cycling trail connects with the Venetian Waterway Park, making the total length of both about 20 miles. Oscar Schearer State Park, another favorite spot for locals, nature lovers, hikers, and canoeing enthusiasts is accessible from the Legacy Trail or just minutes from Palmer Ranch by car.

Palmer Ranch also offers numerous opportunities for golf enthusiasts, both in and around the area. TPC Prestancia is perhaps one of the best-known private clubs in the area, with two 18-hole courses to boast. Part of the TPC network of nationwide properties, Prestancia has hosted eight Chrysler Cup tournaments and five American Express Invitationals. Notable clubs with distinct neighborhoods in Palmer Ranch include Country Club of Sarasota and Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club, to name just two.

If a day at the beach sounds inviting, Palmer Ranch residents will find themselves only about 10 minutes from the Stickney Point Causeway, which provides access to the island of Siesta Key. Siesta Key is famous for the sugar-white sands found along its wide, award-winning beaches. Residents can also head a little further south and in about the same amount of time, find themselves on the more secluded Casey Key . And still a bit further south, the family-friendly Venice Beach awaits.

Whether you prefer a day out on a sandy beach or day of shopping, a day out on the links or a day spent hiking through woodlands and canoeing waterways, Palmer Ranch is within 15-20 minutes of it all. Working professionals will find drive times easy and quick from here, as residents are near the U.S. 41 and the I-75, to the west and east respectively. Clark Rd borders the northern end of Palmer Ranch and offers a major east-west corridor. Whether you simply need easy access to other areas of Sarasota or via I-75, you need to get to Tampa, Ft. Myers, or Naples, Palmer Ranch puts you in the perfect location to reach all of these areas easily. Palmer Ranch Homes History

Today’s Palmer Ranch development is part of 80,000 acres originally owned by Bertha Palmer, a Chicago socialite and wife of department store tycoon Potter Palmer, who settled in Sarasota in 1910. Becoming one of the first prominent, wealthy northern visitors to make Sarasota their year-round residence, Mrs. Palmer developed a lavish estate, dubbed “The Oaks,” where she entertained famous guests, added extensive gardens, and served as a leader developing the area. Her sons inherited the property upon her death and they continued developing the area. Hugh Culverhouse, former owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, eventually took over the property and began the development of what we see today in Palmer Ranch. Map of Palmer Ranch in Sarasota, FL
