It worked for about a week or two then stopped. It was effective when the cats stepped on it. I was worried the charge would be too strong and be rather cruel but it was okay. But it stopped working so I guess it doesn’t really matter what I think. My husband thinks there may be a short in it. I may just resort to putting a few cheap water guns in each room and see how that goes to keep them off the counters. Cheaper alternative.

It was something else to see the looks they gave me as they walked across the mat, while on the kitchen counter, knowing that it was not allowed. I mean, I am sure they know. Maybe the cats broke it. Who knows. 0 You liked it! Something went wrong. Please try again later. Report

This has been the best purchase ever! We had tried everything to keep our rescue kitty off the counters and tables … spraying him with water, making loud noises, slapping the counter, etc. He would jump down, look at us, and IMMEDIATELY jump right back up. We love this guy, but I do not want him on the areas where food is prepared or consumed after he has visited his litter box!

I have one older dog who is incontinent, and a cat who likes to pee wherever the dog has had an accident. I have specific, easy-to-clean beds for the pup, but she still prefers sneaking up onto the couch. This mat stopped that behavior in just a few zaps. The shock is no more painful than what you would get if you touched a doorknob after some light scuffling around on carpet; definitely uncomfortable, but not harmful at all. The 9V battery in mine lasted for well over a year of very infrequent jumps (testament to effectiveness!). I’m ordering a second mat as I type this. 0 You liked it! Something went wrong. I ordered the scat mat strip to use in front of my kitchen island. Pup likes to counter surf while I’m prepping food. It works but your dog (or cat) must touch both wires that run along the strip at the same time in order for the shock to happen. This sounds simple but it’s not. Then my dog decided the mat was a scary thing and just barked constantly at it. I gave up! I think the mat would work better than the strip in most cases. 0 You liked it! Something went wrong. This has worked quite well in keeping our pup out of the kitchen for her favorite sport ‘counter surfing’. She has jumped over it a few times but it has worked 9 tines out of 10 in keeping her at bay. I’ve also used it on car trips to keep her from jumping in the front/back of car and have laid it on top of the stacked wood for our wood stove to keep her from grabbing wood chips – 100% effective for these places! 0 You liked it! I have a 2 year old…Jack Russell/MinPin that we adopted from a shelter. He is very territorial and doesn’t like other dogs at all.We live in an apartment and he used to jump in the window the bark wildly and other dogs going by. I was affraid he would hurt himself. No wthat we have the Scat Mat he doesn’t even go near the window now! So thankful that I bought this. When he first stepped on it he yelped but it didn’t hurt him. Now he stays away from the window. Thank you for an awesome product. 2 You liked it! Something went wrong. Please try again later. Report

Based on solely the reviews I figured, why not? I made the mistake in allowing my 2 dogs on my couch over the past 2 years and to train them NOT to go on them was very difficult. I ordered 3 mats for all 3 of my couches because I got new furniture that I didn’t want my dogs to go on. Within a day my dogs jumped on the mat twice and was trained immediately! It’s been about a month now and I still keep the mats on my couches when I leave but I noticed now I don’t even have to turn them on just lay them on the couch, I’ve also got my dogs their own little couch and they’re so used to laying on that now they don’t bother my couches with or without the mat. 5 You liked it! I bought the large mat to put in front of the door to prevent my cats from scratching on it. All it took was one shock (static electricity)…they stopped scratching on the door completely. Then I purchased two of the medium mats, which I placed in front of two plants which my kitties were nibbling on. Again, no more nibbling. The cats associate the mats with the shock and won’t get close to them. This is a great product. It was the only one that worked. Well worth the price! 3 You liked it! Something went wrong. If you are on the fence about this product, put it in your cart NOW, it can’t get to your house fast enough!! I adopted 2 shelter cats 1 1/2 years ago and spent every day cooking while yelling at them to stay down and spraying them with a squirt bottle, literally every meal of every day! We’ve tried water bottles, tin foil, noisy cans, you name it we’ve done it with no luck as these cats are rather high spirited! I was down to try this or declaw them, which I don’t agree with. This mat has been on my kitchen counter for about 4 hours and while I didn’t see it happen, I just cooked Salmon and when they finally came in the room they didn’t even attempt to jump on the counter top so obviously If you are on the fence about this product, put it in your cart NOW, it can’t get to your house fast enough!! I am beyond happy with this and wish I would have bought it much sooner!! And it’s not at all a painful shock, I did it to myself first to be sure I wasn’t hurting them!! … more 8 You liked it! I got this to stop our cat from getting on the kitchen counters. I laid it out, and the first time she stepped on it, she ran off. I thought we were on to something. She was wary about getting on to the counters. There was a small sliver of space not covered by the giant scat mats, however. One day, she got on that, and that was the end of it. She knew that the plastic was the cause of the shocks. So the scat mat now only works to deter her if it’s there. And that’s not convenient because I can’t use the counter where the scat mat is laying. Jovi is too smart for her own good (or my own good). 2 You liked it! Something went wrong.
