But, there arn’t mentioned many, which makes it difficult and more of an opinion than a substantiated scientific review. The few times he does refer to any literature he refers to an article in Men’s Health Magazine (we don’t need to eleborate on that..) and to a study in the journal of Biological Chemistry which investigates the metabolic alkalosis disease, not relevant and not something you can get (under normal circumstances) from drinking alkaline water. The author also doesn’t makes this link or describes any causality found. He only states that since alkalosis is dangerous (something which is nothing new and is the same as stating that cancer is a potentially dangerious disease), drinking alkaline water potentially raises doubt. Which in my opinion is the same as stating that drowning is dangerous, so walking in the rain is potentially dangerous too. So when his varying opinion under circumstances is not something that makes his claims less valid, at least his way of researching is.

However, it could be said that not only is the author out of date with his arguments, but also that the majority of the water ionizer vendors are also behind the times. In the last two years it was finally realised that the positive health effects of ionized water came not from the high pH of the electrolysed water, but from the H2 infused into the water by the process.

It has become evident recently that the production of H2 was never in the design brief of the companies that made these units. This has been shown by the fact that most units require very regular and water-wasting cleaning regimes to keep up the H2 output. But the ‘elephant in the room’ of the author’s article is the assertion that this water may be deleterious to health, with one doctor’s report and some Japanese studies from at least 15 years ago when water ionizers used stainless steel electrodes – an obvious health risk . There have been no more studies since the quoted one but it still gets trotted out as proof of the danger of ionized water.

Of course if I am to refute the claims made by the author, I should be prepared to support my own claim that H2 rich water may be the best thing to happen in water technology since RO. Luckily for me this is relatively simple. There are now over 700 scientific studies into the health effects of hydrogen rich water, over 150+ disease or medical conditions.
