The intelligent original design of the home at 1662 Ladera Trail allowed current owners to renovate it during the past five years into a distinctive, uncluttered and peaceful space for a relaxing lifestyle.

“This is a bright, open floor plan with lots of natural light,” said Dana Chillinsky of Irongate Inc. Realtors. “There are vaulted ceilings throughout (the home).”

The home was built in 1978 on a .77-acre lot in the Chateau Woods subdivision of Washington Twp.

Extensive interior renovations were made during the past five years, including kitchen features, gutting and reconfiguring the laundry room, updated baths and custom window treatments.

Exterior renovations evolved into the creation of Zen-like spaces featuring an intricate waterfall system around a spacious bi-level patio descending to an in ground swimming pool.

“(Owners) worked with an architect and professional craftsmen to redesign the back yard,” said Chillinsky. “It’s gorgeous at night with all the lighting.”

Offering about 2,460 square feet of living space, the home is listed for $455,000.

Passing by a contemporary fountain set in river rock, a long walkway of concrete tile stretches from the driveway along the width of the home to a private front entrance at the far end. Professionally landscaped flowerbeds are enhanced with stone retainer walls edged by additional river rock areas.

Hardwood flooring warms the entry under its vaulted ceiling. In the living room, the fireplace facing was redone in stacked stone. Window arrangements of varying shapes add abundant light to the room.

On the opposite side of the entry, the formal dining room connects through sliding glass doors to a Zen-style rock garden with a flat stone patio.

The entry leads into the great room, where two sets of wide windows with sliding lower windows flank the fireplace.

In the updated guest bath a backsplash in small tiles accents the vanity topped with a vessel bowl and wall-mounted faucet.

The vaulted ceiling in the updated kitchen holds a skylight. Granite tops all the counters, including the center island, where a gas cooktop and downdraft vent are installed. Stainless appliances include the French-door refrigerator, dishwasher and double wall ovens near the pantry.

Sliding glass doors open from the breakfast area to a like-new deck with replaced low-maintenance decking and built-in benches. A contemporary railing edges wide steps descending to the first tier of the large patio.

From a narrow basin edging this upper tier, a waterfall flows gently onto river rocks arranged on the lower tier, which contains a kidney-shaped swimming pool. Landscaping surrounding the entire outdoor gathering area is designed for privacy with tall hedges, pines and other trees complementing mulched flowerbeds.

Sleek features extend to the laundry room, which was gutted and renovated with rectangular slate-like tile flooring, stacked front-loading washer and dryer, elegant cabinets and a sink with a granite counter. An arrangement of stainless hanging rods and pegs fills the back wall near the built-in ironing board.

A large window accents the landing above the central staircase. The versatile upper level can be a two-room-with-bath main suite, or it can be two bedrooms.

The main bedroom enjoys a new balcony overlooking the pool. The private bath is accessed through tall sliding doors with frosted glass inserts. Granite tops the raised vanity in the anteroom. Earth-toned, textured tile surrounds the tub and shower area. A pocket door opens into the walk-in closet, which has organizer shelves and drawers.

The second bedroom/study has built-in bookshelves, a deep walk-in closet and a skylight.

Daylight windows in the walkout lower level extend living space to a family room, a recreation room, two more bedrooms and a full bath. Sliding glass doors open to a private patio edged by triple-tiered flowerbeds with stone retainer walls.

“This home is absolutely gorgeous,” said Chillinsky. “(It is) contemporary living at its finest.”
