As part of a cross country q card gas station round trip between Ohio and California, after arriving in Portland OR on the Empire Builder from Chicago, we caught the Coast Starlight south from Portland to Sacramento, CA. Then a week later we caught the Coast Starlight again from Sacramento to Los Angeles before heading east on the Southwest Chief back to Chicago.

For the first part of the down the west coast journey on the Coast Starlight we traveled coach on the lower level. From all indications, the train was filled to capacity. The train departed on time but quickly became behind schedule for unknown reasons. While not a bad trip, the most scenic parts of this leg of our journey (northern California) was traversed at night. We did make up time overnight and actually electricity and magnetism physics arrived in Sacramento a little early just before sunrise. I guess the only noteworthy event during this leg of the journey was when the Conductor decided to announce over the PA system that he had just caught a couple having sex in one of the restrooms. He further went on to describe how disgusting he felt this was and that the train was not the place to join the “Mile High Club” and that if he caught anyone else that they would be kicked off the train. All I can say is that they must have been two very skinny people as in my opinion most of the restrooms barely fits one normal sized person inside. After gas oil ratio units a week stop in Sacramento we again boarded the Coast Starlight bound for Los Angeles, this time in Coach on the upper level. While I would admit that there is some convenience of travelling on the lower level such as less people, close by luggage storage racks, no stairs to climb, accessibility to the restrooms, and the close proximity of the train car doors to board and de-board, the window views are much better from the upper level. While central California is scenic, unfortunately as we neared the San Francisco area and then headed south thru Oakland to San Jose, not only was the poor state of the American industrial and factory sites very apparent, but the plight of the homeless became very evident. There were just so many people living in tents and shacks along the tracks it was actually extremely depressing. While this is not the forum to discuss this, something needs to be done to help the homeless more. The gas x strips after gastric sleeve trip south between Sacramento and Los Angeles takes the entire day and as such, we did not reach the actual coastline until just before dusk. While we did get about 30 minutes along the coast just before sunset, the vast majority of the trip along the q gases componen el aire actual California coastline was in the dark eventually arriving in Los Angeles around 9:30PM. As with our trip west from Chicago on the Empire Builder, perhaps if the Coast Starlight traveling south was taken during the summer months with longer days along with daylight savings time, it would have been a much more scenic trip. I would not recommend taking this trip south from Portland to LAX during the winter months in hopes of seeing wonderful scenery. Bringing along a few snacks with us for the day, we did not partake in any of the food service while onboard preferring to eat in a real restaurant after our arrival at our destination in LAX. Due to a medical issue while in Florida I was advised not to fly back to Vancouver, B.C. Booked Amtrak and gas in back symptoms caught a ride to Texas to catch my train from Fort Worth, Texas to Los Angeles and L.A. to Seattle/Bellingham. Booked a roomette and it was definitely worth the extra money. The roomette is compact but works great for one person although two can travel in the space I think that would be way too tight. The bed was so comfortable and the motion of the train put me right to sleep. The glass door and curtains facing the corridor provided so much privacy and the huge window looking out was perfect. Everything was so clean and in good order/condition. The food was included in the rail fare and was wonderful with a great selection of options that gas vs electric dryer they will customize to your taste. Amtrak staff were wonderful-from booking to lounges to onboard. Especially appreciated the great sitting room to bed conversion every night and the reverse in the morning. Very nice to use the rather small lounge at L.A. Union Station for a six hour stop. I did walk through the coach area and I do feel that coach would have been a bit of a stretch for me but doable. I had no problem with the price for my own room. Four days and three nights with gorgeous views, food electricity history united states, service and comfort for $1100—-a bargain. I was on Cunard in July for a cruise in Europe-I felt this was comparable for what I got. I would definitely do it again. The great price pales in comparison to driving cross-country with car rental, gas, hotel, fatigue of driving and incomparable views from a private room, etc. I highly recommend Amtrak!
