We made Atlanta our home, where my husband is a CPA and Financial Planner and I am a retired realtor. The last of our three grown children is in grad school. We now have four grandchildren, and hope to create some warm and wonderful St. Simons beach memories with them, as we did with our own family.

When our grown children come back to St.Simons, they like to touch and feel all of their favorite familiar places: crabbing at the pier (traps available at the village hardware store), Palmer’s in the village for great breakfasts or lunch, Fort Frederica, Christ Church, Crab Trap for dinner, long walks on the beach at low tide looking for special finds and loggerhead turtle nests or just to walk, going on turtle hunts after dark to see the newly hatched baby turtles head to the ocean, building giant sand castles with moats, going deep sea fishing, biking all over the island, watching the pelicans perch on the pilings, checking out the tide pools for starfish and crabs, picnics on the beach, watching the seagulls catch bread in midair, kite flying, hunting for sand dollars, eating lots of great seafood, taking a kayak lesson, visiting the millionaires’ village on Jekyll Island, strolling the village for fun shops and fabulous eateries (and ice cream), lunch at Southern Soul, checking out the fishermens’ latest catch at the pier, renting a sailboat, day tripping over to Cumberland Island (to see the wild horses and other creatures on this uninhabited island) via ferry,

going into Brunswick to see the shrimp boats come in after a good haul, rising extra early to take in a spectacular sunrise from the beach, going to the community theater, out for frozen yogurt, going on a naturalist guided tour of the beach and/or marsh or turtle walk, eating out at the many great restaurants, making art projects on the porch, Sal’s for pizza, curling up with a good book on the beach…not to mention all the wonderful golf and tennis amenities and the new pool complex/Village.

Sea Haven Cottage is perfectly situated for all of beach life at St.Simons Island. The Gould’s Inlet beach access is about a two minute walk, is also everyone’s favorite beach (due to the abundance of sandbars) and also paddleboard launch, which is the new BIG water sport. You can try it out for yourself or enjoy being a spectator 100 yards from your front door, where the beach awaits, and where there are usually at least a few trying their skill. Also the perfect location for sea kayaking into the marsh. The historic Coast Guard Station and monument are located at the entry to East Beach. Just across the East Beach Causeway (across the marsh), and a few miles to your right, you will find the very interesting site and ruins of historic Fort Frederica, the site of the Battle of Bloody Marsh, and the historic and still active Christ Church. Several good restaurants on the island are within a minute’s drive: Crab Daddy’s, ECHO, Crab Trap and Southern Soul BBQ. The cottage is a scenic and easy bike ride to the quaint village where you will find the historic lighthouse, pier, the new resort quality pool complex with 3 pools, water park, mini-golf course and playground, with the sparkling Atlantic Ocean as the spectacular backdrop. In the village are some casual dining choices such as Mellow Mushroom, Palmers(great breakfast or lunch), Half Shell, Iguana’s(voted best shrimp by Trip Advisor), CJ’s (Italian) and Moo Cow ice cream for dessert!
