Description: The word is out on the town and this little "Boskombuis" is creating wonders and just doing something completely different. Welcomed at the humble boma entrance you are escorted into an unforgettable traditional South African dining experience combined with the most splendid views and lazy, no-rush ambiance. Tucked right up against a gigantic round boulder, is a log fire where most of the food is prepared. To the front, pulling the children with an unseen magnetism, is the Treur river, with its crystal clear water, gently flowing a mere stone’s throw away from the dining area. The menu itself is short and to the point, with open flame grilled steaks taking the centre stage. Apparently local "potjie" specialities are prepared over weekends. You need to plan a little in advance, the weather can change easily in this part of the world…do take some warm clothes or a blanket. Potluck Boskombuis has no credit card facilities or mobile phone coverage, take enough cash to cater for a blissful outdoor experience that will leave everlasting memories and make one want to visit again and again….

Went with the Family this morning on route back from the Blyde River Canyon… what a neat spot in the middle of nowhere… but it seems that the owner has never left that nowhere spot to see that people of other races live in South Africa (and the rest of the world!!) We stood ( as a family of 4) at the entrance but were not welcomed by the staff/host… we had to find our own table, seated in full view of the owner…two tables away. Two other sets of white patrons subsequently came through…and were welcomed by the host ( ushered by the owner)… thereafter a young black couple came through and eyed by the owner, in quick step, he approached them and told them to leave ( as they had their open drink in hand)… while I accept they were wrong… he should told them to dispose of their Pvt drink, as he was running a business and he should patronize his business ( but instead he summarily dismissed them)…… all the while we waited for a waiter to come attend to us…. In between the ‘long blank glares from the owner’ my wife finally got up and fetched us menus – right at the table next to him ! After waiting a further 10mins and more white patrons coming through being welcomed by the host and having waiters attend directly to them ( all in plain view of the owner)…. we, highly irate, got up and proceeded to leave…. The owner just plainly looked at us… didn’t even bother to get up and ask if something was the matter or enquire why we where leaving… So this kind of archaic, discriminatory behavior still continues in 2018 in South Africa… such a shame!!!
