l admit that I was apprehensive to travel to Puerto Rico. I could find little written about the condition of the island after Hurricane Maria and what to expect as a tourist. Hesitantly, I booked a trip with my family of five and stayed in Annie’s home in Dorado Beach East. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made as a traveler! The island is still recuperating in many spots, but Dorado has recovered nicely and the resort is absolutely gorgeous! Annie was very responsive to every question and concern I had. She met us at her home and it is just as nice as it’s pictured. The rooms are enormous and nicely furnished. Especially the brand new kitchen! My teenage children were all very comfortable and we felt right at home. Some tips for travelers; without a doubt – spend the money and get a temporary club membership. You will enjoy every amenity so much from golfing, the water mill, restaurants, fitness center, etc. Due to the Ritz being closed until the fall, keep in mind some things are only open on the weekends – plan accordingly. The highlight of our trip was Encanto Beach – never have I been at a more luxurious spot! Full service staff, breathtaking pool and arguably the best beach in the Caribbean. The restaurant is only open Thurs. through Sun. Keep in mind that it’s a 10 minute golf cart ride from Annie’s house. Her golf cart is nice, but it’s older so slower and the brakes are in rough shape. We used it sparingly, but rented another cart from Tony at Carts4You. Do that! Also know that many of the traffic and street lights in Dorado aren’t working properly as yet. That will limit what you do in the evening hours – we only went out twice at night to the small plaza down the road. But you will spend most of your time in the reserve – which actually makes it more relaxing. I will be going back to Dorado again – this was hands down, one of my favorite family trips ever. Puerto Rico is a hidden gem right now – until the word gets out so don’t wait. BOOK IT!
