The top three beers, ciders and meads in each judged category of the 2019 Best Florida Beer competition will be on tap at this grade 6 science electricity test laid-back, self-pour festival. Not only can guests sample an extensive list of coveted wild and sour ales from around the world, they can indulge in the sixth annual master class on brewing such beers. This year’s guests include Andrew gas south Emerton of New Belgium Brewing, Patrick Woodson of Brewery Bhavana, Mitch Ermatinger of Speciation Artisan Ales, talks by Ryan Burk of Angry Orchard and Brian Wing of Green Bench Mead and Cider, as well as Walt Dickinson of Wicked Weed Brewing. $100. 6-11 p.m. March 8. Cigar City Brewing Company will celebrate its 10th anniversary at this landmark beer festival, which includes the 2019 release of its iconic imperial stout, along with myriad barrel-aged and flavored versions alongside hundreds of other sought-after electricity gif beers from all across the country. Technically a day before the official Beer Week kickoff, the Ultimate Brewer is quirky enough to warrant a look. Twenty-five competing p gasket 300tdi breweries were provided with randomly drawn pairs of novel ingredients (previous editions have featured ingredients like mango, onions, curry powder, pomegranate horseradish, toffee, bananas pears and thyme arranged in surprising pairings) that must be used in a beer, to be sampled blind by judges and attendees at the Ultimate Brewer. This new exhibit at the Tampa Bay History Center traces beer and brewing in the bay area from its 19th century Ybor City roots to today, where it’s recognized as one of the nation’s top beer scenes. Prohibition, homebrewing and the rise of modern breweries in the area are all on tap Saturday through Aug. 11. Five bay area breweries — Hidden Springs, Angry Chair, Escape, Tampa Bay Brewing Company and defending champs Coppertail — will compete in a round-robin tournament of classic arcade games, scoring points for their brewery in each round. Florida doesn’t have the right climate for hop growing, but that hasn’t stopped Twin Bays Hop Farms, which is growing over 4,000 hop plants in a custom hydroponic greenhouse, one of the largest in the country. Get a look at the locally grown hops appearing in local beers soon, opening up the possibility of fresh hop beers, something once exclusive to hop-growing regions like Colorado and the Pacific Northwest.
