Renovated in 2017 by two talented architects, it has been tastefully and sympathetically transformed into a modern, elegant, well-designed home for them and their guests whilst, maintaining its original character and charm; a successful combination of history and contemporary architecture!

At 180 m2 the house is generously proportioned to sleep 4-5 people. The top floor is an open-space loft-style suite containing the master bedroom with a king-size bed, living room, and bathroom, providing an intimate space for a couple to enjoy the views – which include a frontal sea view facing magical sunsets.

The ground floor is also bathed in sunlight and includes a second living room with a wood stove for the evenings during the cooler months, a dining room, a large fully-equipped kitchen and a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, a bathroom.

The paired-back but cool, tasteful décor blends carefully selected antiques with original design pieces. This is an extraordinary house that owes much of its charm to its aura of a bygone age. It is our family’s vacation home which has been passed from generation to generation with care and respect, and has now been adapted to provide a comfortable and tranquil retreat to for guests with an accent on heritage, beauty, comfort, and fine architecture.

“Born in France, I lived there until I was 35. Visiting on holiday in the early 1990’s, I immediately fell in love with the stunning island of Kefalonia, and Fiscardo in particular. A dream was formed: I longed to stay. Soon, a business opportunity presented itself and I took the risk. The rest is history.

It took me some time to locate the perfect plot to build a home to complete my dream, but I finally found it and finished building Villa Alto-Mare in 2001. After selling my small business, I took a break and spent amazing long summers with family and friends in it’s exceptional setting. I decided to rent the villa in 2008 and it’s success was immediate.

Not long after, with the knowledge I gained, I decided to start up my own boutique business acting as an agent for a selection of holiday villas, whose owners benefit from my personal experience. The limited number of villas I’ve hand-picked are based on each owner’s personality and the friendship and trust that unite us. Hailing from a range of different countries – Italy, Israel, France, Switzerland, and of course, Greece – they all share the same passion: that of their love for Fiscardo, and the north of the island. Most of them have poured that passion into the holiday homes they have built – all houses with character which are a cut above the usual holiday rental. And that is why we work well together, because they understand what a house with a heart really is.” Villa Koukounaria" is one of those.

At 6 km from the villa, Fiscardo is a picturesque and beautiful Greek harbour village on the Northern tip of Kefalonia, largest of the seven Ionian Islands. Fiscardo is unique in that it was left virtually undamaged during the great earthquake of 1953, that ruined most of the historic buildings on Kefalonia. Fiscardo, with its waterfront tavernas and bars, is simply a delight. Strict building regulations, to maintain the elegance of the Venetian architecture which lines Fiscardo’s horseshoe harbour, have created a magical setting that is one of Kefalonias highlights.Traditionnal Kefalonian fishing boats moor alongside the more extravagant temporary visitors during the summer. If you are early enough you can buy freshly caught fish. Otherwise, a stroll around the harbour will take you on a tour of some of the most luxurious yachts. Many of them are owned by the rich and famous who are attracted to Kefalonia by the tranquillity of Fiscardo.Fiscardo at night takes on an entirely different perspective. The lights, the old buildings, cafes, bars and restaurants all combine to provide a magical Mediterranean atmosphere.Of all the villages of Kefalonia, Fiscardo stands out as having a unique ambiance, especially on a summer evening.
