I have taken the Canadian cross country numerous times and usually in winter. In terms of actually sleeping it depends on the individual – some love the constant swaying and vibration to fall asleep while others can’t stand it. The sleeping cars have showers at their ends, though in cold weather their drains can freeze up which results in multiple sleeping cars o gastronomico sharing the same shower. A shower kit – towel, soap, shampoo – is provided in your cabin, and you may want to bring flip flops. There are a number of dome cars distributed throughout the train which is where I would recommend spending most of your time. The dome cars have canteens where you can purchase drinks and snacks. At the very back of the train is the main lounge car with a dome on top. As of my last trip access to this car was restricted during the day electricity facts ks2 to the VIA prestige class passengers, but was open to all sleeper plus passengers in the evening. Getting a seat in the dome cars generally wasn’t a problem with the exception of the segment through the Rockies where they fill up quickly. With the Canadian being one of the world’s great rail trips it attracts a diverse and international clientele. The food is very good with breakfasts being solid diner fare, lunches being very edible sandwiches/ wraps/soups and such, and dinners being something to look forward to showcasing a variety of Canadian cuisine. Vegetarians are accommodated but not vegans as of my last trip. All meals on the Canadian are prepared on board in the train’s kitchen. We travelled VIA Rail from Torronto to Jasper ,3 day trip with our tour group, arrived at station for 1030pm departure didn’t leave till 1.30 am next morning (3hrs) late due to train preparation ??,we had to sit in 1st class lounge until departure, although late at night we were given a free fruit ,choc bar, health bar and drink snack box. Settled into our double bunk cabin, prestige class was far to expensive to upgrade about $3000 .cabin was small but beds were very comfortable, for the trip the only issue was static electricity sound effect waiting for east bound goods trains to pass ,I think in all about 7-8 stops this put our arrival time in Jasper some 8 hrs late missing out on some of the Rockies views because of darkness, Beds were made up each morning and stowed away with two lounge chairs for day travel then reversed back to beds for night time, all of which was done efficiently by the staff , Food was excellent and plenty of nibbles (fruit,biscuits,tea coffee 24 hrs ) available. Staff were friendly and very helpful and always available. The panoramic viewing cars were good but sometimes difficult to get a seat, even though at each entrance to to raised deck there were signs advising No Sleeping during the day there was always several old travellers sitting in the sun fast asleep for hours with no consideration for anybody else and non of the staff that I saw done anything to move them on (disappointing) Overall it was an excellent trip well worth doing and seeing a brief view of the different Canadian landscapes, We really enjoyed this part of our trip just don’t plan anything close 4 main gases in the atmosphere to your arrival time you may miss out

My stepfather and I traveled with VIA from Edmonton (economy ticket) to Jasper and then on to Prince Rupert in late August 2018. We would NOT recommend this trip to anyone. The condition of the train station in Edmonton is a total embarrassment to Canadians as it plays host to foreign tourists who use this train as advertised. The train gas out game instructions ‘The Canadian’ was delayed 8 times and departed from Edmonton 7 hours late!!! That meant arriving in Jasper in the dark – no opportunity to see the scenery, and we didn’t get settled into our hotel until midnight! There was no opportunity to spend time in Jasper. The train cars were grimy and filthy, the windows so streaky that they were distracting from looking outside. The trip on to Prince Rupert from Jasper was better as we traveled in the tourist car. However, the train didn’t arrive in our final stop until midnight, so once again we didn’t see anything of the scenic valley from Terrace onward. The train station in Prince Rupert is desolate and there are no services there. And the train just leaves there once it dumps you off in the grade 6 science electricity unit test middle of the night. VIA needs to up its game to be a true passenger service that is worthy of Canada. This isn’t it folks! I highly discourage you from taking this trip!
